Here is where you can see the Pierce Joint Unified School District's technology projects both our completed projects and our current or ongoing projects.
Current Projects
Projects on the schedule for summer of 2023.
This depends a bit per school site, but we have some district wide projects as well.
This summer we will be replacing all security cameras in the district with new cameras that have newer technologies, better resolution, and will be available from outside our district as well. In addition to replacing the cameras we will also be adding cameras to the Grand Island Elementary School.
Another district wide project is that we will be upgrading our connections between the schools and upstream to the internet to 10 Gigabit to be ready for future needs. We are also changing the layout of our network where the main connections will be coming into the district in the IT Center, currently they are coming in at the District Office. This location will give us more options for cooling the equipment, future power backup options, etc. to lower the possibility of downtime. This upgrade and migration is scheduled for the first week of July and should have some downtime for network and internet during that time.
Just as at the Johnson Junior High this Spring Break, we will be replacing the old bell system at Arbuckle Elementary School with a new system. We'll be removing the old speakers on campus and will be installing new horns around the school and a new clock/speaker in each of the rooms.
The classroom units will have a digital clock with speakers that can also display messages. Below is an image of how the classroom devices look.
The installation of the clocks and bells is scheduled for the week of June 5th and is scheduled to be completed before summer school starts on June 12th.
We will be installing new cameras in the Corona Gym and the Press Box on the football field for broadcasting of games and events. The installation is scheduled for the week of June 5th.
HMH announced last year that they will discontinue Reading Counts as of June 30th this year. In working with Arbuckle Elementary School, Grand Island Elementary School and the Johnson Junior High we piloted different applications and have decided to switch to Renaissance Accelerated Reader and Star Reader. The program will be available for staff and students at the beginning of the new 2023-24 school year.
Next school year we will be switching Aeries over to Flex Scheduling. This feature offers more different ways to schedule students and staff that is not possible in the current scheduling options. Examples that could be used are students in multiple classes, assigning a substitute to a class as a co-teacher, etc.
Summer 2023 the Acer chrome tablets at AES and GIE will be at the end of their life, replacements will be offered on a case by case basis.
